Chiropractors are go-to practitioners during pregnancy. They offer safe and effective treatments to pregnant moms who have back pain, pelvic pain, sciatica, headaches, and more. Many people don't know that chiropractors can also help infants. Dr. Emily is trained in gentle pediatric chiropractic along with a technique called Craniosacral Therapy (CST).
A newborn evaluation and treatment can address stresses and strains from positioning during pregnancy and from birth. Treatments are customized for each baby's needs. The infant can be treated on a blankie on the exam table, on Dr. Emily's lap, while being held by a parent, and even while nursing. In fact, many moms bring their babies in to help promote easier, more coordinated breastfeeding.
Reflexes, muscle tension, craniosacral rhythm, joint mobility and head shaping are assessed during a treatment. The evaluation and corrective procedures are all very gentle, the typical pressure used during a treatment is about 5 grams, no more than the weight of a nickel! Parents are often surprised at the huge effects of this soft hands-on approach. Babies usually find the mellow treatment sessions very relaxing. Reports of "best sleep ever!" and "awesome latch" following a visit are common. Dr. Emily likes to provide the families in her practice with gentle stretches and home exercises to address any issues that may come up during a visit. It is Dr. Emily's goal to make those early newborn days a more peaceful experience for your whole family.
